Francophone Week! Youppi

Math : This week we are working on a new chapter (Chapter 9, inequalities). On Thursday we will have a special activity day for the Francophone week. I will be handing back the Midterm exams on Wednesday.

Social Studies 9

Students will be working on group projects in regards to Chapter 5. They are asked to create a tourism pamphlet highlighting information and immigration incentives about a chosen Canadian province. This project is expected to be handed in on March 6th.

FLA 9:

Students have been introduced to the theater unit of the curriculum. We will be focusing on structures and framework related to theater in preparation to the unit final project (performance). In addition, students will continue their study on grammatical structures ( subjunctive mode and past participle).
Note: Students had a quiz on Subjonctif last Monday and it was a disaster. They did another on Friday and hopefully they will get better results.

ELA:
This week we will take what we learned with the critical response essay and apply it to writing a personal response essay.  (For your PAT you will have the choice of writing either a story or a personal response essay so this will help to prepare you if you choose to write an essay) We will look over the rubric and some examples of past PAT questions and sample pieces of writing.  I will then give you a couple of past PAT questions to choose from before starting to organize your ideas into an essay plan (similar to the one we did for the critical response essay)

This week the first draft of your critical response essay is due on Monday, February 24.  We will have the opportunity to engage in some peer and self review in order to prepare the final draft which is due on Wednesday, February 26.  Following this deadline, we will use what we learned for the critical response essay to inform our process for creating a personal response essay in preparation for the Part A PAT (which will be written in May).

9ème ES (new marks were added on Powerschool)

I would like to welcome back Myriam Salhi, Uof C last year student teacher. She will be involved with teaching on a daily basis.   Students will develop their knowledge on immigration laws and politics in Canada. A quick test is scheduled for Thursday, February 27th.

Students have been developing their knowledge on the subjunctive mode. Next week, we will start a new unit on theater.

A test on the subjunctive mode is scheduled for Tuesday, February 25th. I highly recommend students to review and study during the weekend.

Week of Feb 18

ELA:  This week we will go to the lab to take the information that you have noted in your plan, and connect these ideas together as an essay using transitional words and phrases.

We would like to welcome Myriam Salhy back for her last practicum before she graduates from Uof C. She will be working with students full time starting next week in FLA and SS

SS: Chapter 5 in progress.  Immigration Homework due for Tuesday 18 along with an article found on-line.

FLA: Students are done with the Novel study which was not a great success. Again, in order to improve their FLA skills, they need to read at home almost every day. We will do so verbs exercises about Subjonctif, but also review the basics which are very weak in general. Students need to use a dictionary and not rush things out before handing assignments.

Science:
Review sheet for theme 3 module 3 is due Thursday.
Test on themes 1, 2 and 3 also on Thursday.

Math : We are studying for the Midterm all week. Students will receive review sheets and will have homework to practice. The Midterm will be in 3 parts starting on February 25th and Ending on February 27th. Students should spend time every day practicing.

Week of Feb.10th

New marks are on Powerschool

FLA: Students need to complete the reading of their Novel and will have to write a resumé based on their own observation and note. They will also have to hand-in their yellow worksheet.

SS: There will be a test chapter 4 on Tuesday, Feb 11. It will be like a PAT format. We will also start chapter 5 on Immigration.

ELA:  Last week we had some time to play the games that some of you created for your novel study final project.  We then signed out new silent reading books and learned how to create a thesis statement for a critical response essay.  Next week we will progress with the essay plan, learning how to develop and support our ideas for the body paragraphs of our essay.

Math : Students are finishing their Chapter 4 in class. We will have a Quiz on Wednesday to review the chapter. Next week, we begin our review for the Midterm. We will take 4 days to study in class and the midterm will take place on February  24,25 and 26 in 3 parts. Students should begin their review right away.
