Happy Holidays!

Homeroom parents and students:
On behalf of myself and Myriam Salhi, my student teacher, I would like to wish everyone Happy Holidays! Take those two weeks to spend time with your loved ones and get some rest for the New Year!   Cheers everyone!

Week of Dec 16th



SS: Students work in groups to look over some case studies that happened before the Charter of Rights. They have a short project to hand-in next Monday the 16th on an activist Canadian woman.   The students had class time to complete this project.  next week. We will finish chapter 3 next week and there will a test mid-January. (TBD) Enjoy your Holidays!

FLA:
This week students have taken part in a summative project in regards to the poetry unit. The task was divided into two parts, the first one being the analysis and the second the creation of a poem. Many of the students also created calligrams to illustrate their projects. We will host a ‘’Café Poésie’’ in which students will have the opportunity to share their creations. They will be offered croissants and hot cocoa. Next week, students will watch a movie and they will have to produce a summary of their understanding.

ELA:
This week we will continue with our discussions, journalling and comprehension activities in relation to our novel studies.  There will be a reading quiz on Monday for the following chapters:
Invitation to the Game:  Chapters 7-8
Lord of the Flies:  Chapters 7-9
The Chrysalids:  Chapters 11-14
Animal Farm:  Chapters 4-6

Over the break, you will need to read to the END of your novel!  There will be a reading quiz when you return.  Have a happy holiday!

Sciences:
Element project is due on Jan 10th.
Study Sheet for theme 5 is due Wednesday, Dec. 18th.
We will have challenging but so rewarding chemistry work! Naming of chemical compounds.

Math : This week we continue our review of Chapter 1 : Symmetry and Surface area. Students have their test on Wednesday of this week. I wish everyone Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. Enjoy your break!

Week of Dec 9th

SS: We started working on chapter 3, Charter of Rights. Next week we will see some case studies and start a project Graffiti style.

Math : Students are working on Chapter 1 this week. Symmetry and Surface Area. Surface area can be a difficult concepts for students. We spent 2 classes in class working on an assignment where students needed to calculate the surface area of a sky scrapper. The unit test will be on Wednesday December 18th. Students should review this week end. 

 FLA: This past week, students  have been evaluated on their French oral competencies regarding the poetry unit. For those who would like to improve their initial mark, second time evaluation will be available starting Monday 9th.

Students have now  started an analytic project on the unit. This assignment is divided in two parts ( analysis and production). They are required to study and discuss a poem of their choice (see guidelines on analysis guiding form).They are  strongly encouraged to use the material studied in class. The second part of the evaluation will engage their creative skills by producing a personal piece which will incorporate poetic characteristics they have studied in class.
For extra credits, students are invited to show their poem through a calligram they will create.
We will end the poetry unit with a ‘’Café Poésie’’ which will take place on Friday the 13th.

Science:
Test on themes 1, 2 and 3 on Monday!

ELA:
We will be continuing with novel study discussions and activities this week.  We will engage in some discussion about other recurring themes as well as we will begin discussing the annotations that you have been making in your novels.  On Monday there will be a reading quiz for the following chapters:
