Week of Feb 3rd.

Sciences:
Study sheet for theme 1 on module 3 due Monday.
Many marks will be added to Power School shortly for our 2nd term.

Math : The grades for the test on Chapter 8 : Equations are up. This test was difficult for most students and I encourage everyone to review these concepts. Being able to solve equations using algebra and opposite operation is a skill needed for high school. Students can come in at lunch for help! We are beginning a new chapter this week (Chapter 4 : Scales and similar shapes).

SS: We will finish chapter 4. There will be a test on Monday February 10th.

FLA: Students need to read the novel until chapter 16 and to complete their worksheets to chapter 16. I strongly suggest they read out loud on a daily basis to improve their speaking skills.

ELA:  We will finish up our final project presentations and then we will begin looking at how to write a thesis statement and build upon it to create a plan for a critical response essay.

Week of Jan 20th.

Science:
Study sheet theme 8 due Monday.
Mega R due the 27th! Why would you keep waiting for the last minute... is beyond me!

SS: Quiz vocab chapter 4. You need to know the definition. You will either get the word or the definition. This week, we will work on Residential school using a Graphic Novel book by Gord Downie and Jeff Lemire called Secret Path. Ask your son or daughter about it!  I am working on report cards, so this is the last call to hand in any late assignments.

FLA: We are still working on the Novel Study. Student needs to read chapter 3-6 and complete worksheets for comprehension.

ELA:  This week we will revise some of the work we did in our novel study booklets.  We will then begin a choice novel project that we will work on in small groups over the course of the next week or so.  This project will include an in-class presentation!

Math : This week we continue to practice solving equations. The equations are becoming quite difficult in grade 9 and this requires several hours of practice (Chapter 8, especially 8.4 in the textbook). We have been taking a lot of class time to practice these concepts but every student is responsible for doing their homework and continue to practice at home. We also starting solving complex word problems related to algebra which is a difficult concept. In order for students to have success in this unit it's very important that they complete their homework and ask questions if they have difficulties solving these equations. I am in my classroom 3 times a week to tutor students who need help with this.
